Sometimes it’s easy to get completely overwhelmed by the state of your house and kind of forget how to clean. You know the days I’m talking about-
The ones where every single room is somehow, magically, pulled completely apart and you are embarrassed at the amount of THINGS you own.
The bathroom floor is covered in dirty laundry (what kind of tiles are they? who knows.) and there’s toothpaste slathered on the counters.
Every single dish you own is taking up counter AND table space and it makes you want to cry.
The living room is hiding under the toys and it looks like a hurricane recently swept through.
Yeah, those days. (or is that everyday? haha)
If that’s where you’re at and you’re feeling overwhelmed, start here and read this post, then come back. I’ll wait for ya❤
Once you’ve done a tidy and put stuff away, it’s time to get to actual cleaning!
This list was written FOR moms BY moms who have gathered some serious cleaning wisdom! I hope this list of BEST CLEANING TIPS FOR MOMS sincerely helps you tackle the cleaning with a newfound confidence and, dare I say, JOY 🙂

GENERAL CLEANING TIPS:
TURN ON YOUR FAVORITE TUNES
This is huge! Do you angry clean? Or like mope around depressed clean? It SUCKS! For you, and everyone around you. Try cleaning to some fun, happy music you love and try to be grumpy, I dare ya.
My kids will usually join in without being asked if there is music on.
USE A CHECKLIST
I have a checklist on my phone for daily, weekly and monthly tasks. I get the daily tasks done ASAP each day (some, like dishes, have more than one step, so it takes longer, of course), then I make a point of doing a weekly thing sometime most days – if I miss something one week, I’ll catch it the next. As we have time to do the monthly chores. It’s nice because I can see what needs to be done and I am motivated by making the list smaller.

HIRE IT OUT
I’m a big believer in outsourcing your bullshit and least favorite tasks so I hire a team of cleaning people to come every other week to do the majority of the big shit: toilets, showers, deep clean the kitchen, mop floors, baseboards and window treatments. Bc I dgaf and it saves me hourrrrrs of time. The rest I do daily and right away if I can. It’s “only” $150 a month and it’s worth every single penny.

DO THE ESSENTIALS EVERYDAY
My favorite tip is to run both the dishwasher and the washing machine every day. That way, everyone always has his favorite coffee mug or pair of jammies, and putting everything away isn’t overwhelming.
- Anissa from Mama Goes Beyond
GET A ROOMBA
Best cleaning tip is get a roomba…cause needing to pick up all the crap on your floor everyday will make you realize how much of it is not needed…easier to declutter and clean floors make the rest of the house seem cleaner somehow.
- Brittany from One Weird Mamma
SET A TIMER
Put on a timer for 10 minutes per room. It’s kinda fun to challenge yourself and you may even finish before the 10 minutes are up!
INVEST IN A GOOD VACUUM
Honestly, I was cleaning my floors with a broom and mop for years before I got a vacuum. The only reason we invested in one was because we got a huge area rug.
You have no idea the amount of dirt and hair you are leaving behind when only using a broom. It basically sweeps all the fine dust and hairs into the air and they settle after you’re done.
With a high powered vacuum, it is sucking all that up while you’re vacuuming. SO WORTH IT.
My Dyson will even pick up dried food and ground in dirt! I love that thing so much, I actually get excited to vacuum (LOL)

CLEANING HACKS TO CLEAN FASTER AND MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER:
STEAM YOUR MICROWAVE TO CLEAN IT
Add some water and vinegar to a microwavable dish and set that sucker to 2 minutes. It will steam up the microwave and make it SO easy to wipe everything off. No more angry microwave scrubbing!
USE BAKING SODA AND VINEGAR FOR YOUR CARPETS
Sprinkle some baking soda over your carpet, mist with vinegar in a spray bottle and let it dry for an hour. Then vacuum as usual!
BOIL VINEGAR IN YOUR KETTLE
Boiling vinegar in your kettle will remove all the hard mineral stains and calcium build up without having to lift a finger. It’s magic!
BLEND SOAP AND WATER IN YOUR BLENDER
Oh, how I wish I had known this sooner. Warm water, a couple drops of soap and blend on high for a squeaky clean blender!
USE BAKING SODA AND VINEGAR TO CLEAR YOUR DRAIN
Don’t want to use those insanely harsh chemicals? Pour a cup of baking soda followed by a cup of vinegar down the drain to unclog it fast. Follow that up by blasting some hot water to rinse it all out.
DEODORIZE YOUR GARBAGE CAN
Throw a small container of baking soda in the bottom of your trash can underneath the bag. Poke holes in the top to let the baking soda soak up bad smells. You can place one in your fridge as well!
FRESHEN YOUR SMELLY BATH TOWELS
Do you have bath towels that don’t smell great anymore? And they’re not as absorbent as they were? Try this method:
- 1 cup vinegar
- 1/2 cup baking soda
Step 1: Wash your towels on the hottest setting possible with the vinegar. Let the cycle completely finish.
Step 2: Wash your towels again, this time with the 1/2 cup of baking soda.
DRY DRY DRY until they are completely, 100% dry!
SANITIZE YOUR KIDS LEGO/TOYS IN A GARMENT BAG
You know those bags they give you when you buy a new bra? The mesh ones? Throw washable toys/lego in there and wash with a regular load of clothes to sanitize them!
